APACT 2010 invites abstract submissions on tobacco control topics relevant to the Asia Pacific region. Abstracts are also sought from outside the region, however indicating how your work is relevant to the Asia Pacific region will enhance your chance of selection, particularly for oral sessions. Abstracts can be on either or both science and practice.

Abstract submission topics
APACT 2010 will accept abstracts in any area of tobacco control or science that supports it. to assist the organisers, you are required to indicate the topic area you prefer to have your submission considered under (focusing on the audience you want to hear it over the content).

Please note, however, the program committee may reallocate topics to balance the program.

  • Big picture and integrative papers

  • Cessation – determinants

  • Cessation programs

  • Communicating about the harms

  • Economics of tobacco

  • Epidemiology (tobacco and disease)

  • Illicit trade

  • Inequality and tobacco

  • Prevalence surveys

  • Prevention – determinants

  • Prevention programs

  • Product regulation

  • Smoke-free

  • Taxation

  • Tobacco Industry activity

  • Tobacco packaging

  • Tobacco production and substitute crops

  • Other

 

If you would like to submit a proposal for an integrated symposium on a theme, you will need to submit abstracts individually, but also send a summary of the symposium aims and the list of proposed papers to science@apact2010.org. This can happen before the individual papers are submitted.

 

Abstract preparation guidelines

  • 250 words maximum, containing an objective, statement of findings and key conclusions

  • Abstracts must include a title, author names, and author affiliations

  • All abstracts must be thoroughly checked for spelling and grammar before submission

  • English is the official conference language

  • Abstracts can only be submitted online in Microsoft Word format only

  • Submissions must be accompanied by an 80 word biography of the presenting author. this information will be used in the abstract reviewing process, and by session chairs for introducing speakers. It may also be published in conference literature.
     

Abstract selection criteria will include:

  • Relevance to the themes of APACT 2010

  • Relevance to the target audience

  • Scientific / practical merit

  • Significance

  • Structure and clarity of the abstract


Notification of acceptance

  • Authors will be notified of acceptance or otherwise via email in April 2010

  • The decision of acceptance of abstracts is at the discretion of the Scientific Program Committee

  • All presenters are required to register for the meeting by 6 August 2010. Failure to register by this date will result in the abstract not being published in the conference handbook, and the presentation being withdrawn from the program.


Presentation types
When submitting your abstract you will be requested to indicate your preferred presentation type. Please note that this will be a preference only and final allocation of abstracts to presentation type will be at the discretion of the Scientific Program Committee. The following presentation types will be available:

  • Oral presentation

  • Poster presentation

  • Moderated poster presentation (includes 3 – 5 minute oral presentation as well as poster presentation)

  • No preference
